Water Mist and the eternal Ice

The British Antartic Survey (BAS) has chosen Danfoss Fire Safety’s SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist for fire safety at Rothera Research Station.

Among the extraordinary places where water mist fire safety systems are installed will soon be the Antarctica. IWMA member Danfoss Fire Safety has provided the system which will be delivered this year. The British Antartic Survey (BAS) has chosen Danfoss Fire Safety’s SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist for fire safety of the new facilities at Rothera Research Station.

The system will protect the Discovery Building, a 4,500 square metre facility that includes areas such as offices, recreation rooms, science workshops, and a medical centre. It will make the long journey to Antarctica in style, travelling by ship on the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

The project is the result of a great collaboration with yet another IWMA member and one of Danfoss Fire Safety’s partners in UK, Fireworks Fire Protection Ltd., who used 3D BIM product models to design the fire safety system. “We are pleased to have been involved in such an interesting project. Our reliable, resilient, and innovative products enabled us to find a perfect solution for this challenging environment”, says Lewis Oxley, Sales & Business Development Manager at Danfoss.
