The fire protection system that fascinated Tom Scott, the famous British video producer and YouTuber, in his documentary “The Mist That Keeps the Tyne Tunnels Safe” was designed and supplied by FOGTEC!
In the video (available on YouTube), Tom Scott takes his audience behind the scenes of the Tyne Tunnel, one of the UK's most important road tunnels with more than 20 million journeys made through it each year.
As part of the New Tyne Tunnels project, FOGTEC designed and supplied the high-pressure water mist fire suppression system protecting both tunnel bores. Following extensive risk analyses, the operator selected this solution to enhance tunnel safety and long-term operational availability.
The system was validated through full-scale fire testing and has been successfully supporting tunnel operations since 2012. More than a decade later, it continues to demonstrate how fire protection contributes to both life safety and the long-term availability of critical transport infrastructure.
The guys from Fogtec particularly liked that the documentary goes beyond individual technologies to show how surveillance, ventilation, evacuation infrastructure and fire suppression work together as part of an integrated safety concept.
