Today marks a special day for Plumis as we celebrate our 17th birthday (it's also National Engineering Day)
Plumis was founded in 2008 by our Chief Design Officer, Yusuf Muhammed and CEO, William Makant.
Early innovations included a tap-mounted fire suppression system, which won the James Dyson Award in 2009 and provided the seed funding to establish Plumis and further develop forward-thinking fire safety solutions.
Our breakthrough came with the development of Automist, an intelligent water mist system that can detect fires at their source and activate faster than traditional sprinklers, using 90% less water.
Automist enables safer, more flexible living spaces without the need for bulky tanks or water mains upgrades.
Today, Automist is protecting over 16,000 properties worldwide including luxury homes, social housing, heritage building conversions, commercial properties and modular buildings.
Plumis continues to lead the way in fire safety innovation, driven by a commitment to reducing fire-related deaths and injuries through intelligent, efficient and environmentally responsible solutions.
In our latest exciting chapter, Automist became the world's first targeted water mist fire suppression to achieve certification to UL 2167A, paving the way for adoption internationally.
Today Automist is available in several countries across the globe, with Ferguson, one of the largest providers of fire protection equipment in the US, being exclusive distributors of the system in North America.
