Fireworks designed and installed water mist fire protection for Townsend House, a new mixed-use building in London’s Victoria district. The 35,000 sq. ft office block houses retail units, offices, premium residential apartments, storage areas and plant rooms. The Fireworks water mist solution for Townsend House is designed to offer best protection for all areas of fire risk, including OH1 and OH3 hazard areas.
Why Fireworks Fire Protection was selected
The client and contractor chose Fireworks as they needed a reliable, experienced water mist expert able to design and install a water mist system for all areas. Fireworks’ engineers were able to perform high quality installation rapidly – and adapt to changing schedules. The project was completed on time and to the complete satisfaction of the client.
Flexible Water Mist solutions for multi-purpose buildings and hotels
Fireworks brings full flexibility and optimum fire protection for multi-purpose buildings such as Townsend House. If the building’s layout is modified or grows in the future, the water mist solution can be adapted or scaled up as needed.
“Our water mist systems offer a range of solutions specifically adapted to the hazards and needs of each project – including car parks” explains Derek Killaspy, Managing Director of Fireworks Fire Protection . “The flexibility and scalability of water mist means we can offer fire protection for the whole building – or just for specific areas.”
Water mist system operation for Townsend House
The Townsend House office block is protected by a centralised water mist pump and water tank, wet section valves and water mist nozzles. Fireworks advised on the water mist nozzles specific to each area of fire risk. The water mist nozzles operate automatically via the frangible elements within the nozzles.
The section valves are in stand-by operation mode and the pipework is filled with water from the pump unit to the automatic water mist nozzles. When the temperature in an area reaches a pre-defined level, the frangible elements in the affected water mist nozzles rupture. This causes a pressure drop in the pipe work, which in turn activates the water mist pump unit. The pump immediately delivers water in the pipework through the normally open section valve to the activated mist nozzles in the area of the fire.
